Enjoy the Great Outdoors at Blandair Regional Park

17 August, 2020 | Apartments

This summer more and more of us have time to explore locally and get outside close to home. One of the best spots for this in the area is Blandair Regional Park. This sprawling 300-acre green space right in Columbia has been groomed and renovated to be one of the largest recreational hubs in the area.

The park is born from a rich history that not many know about. Originally established as farmland in the late-1700s, the land that is now home to the park was actually a working farm that was transferred between many families over hundreds of years. While the land is no longer farmland and was purchased by the county to be transformed into a park in the late 1990s, the historic structures that played a part in the development of the land and the local economy still stand and can be visited today. They are currently renovating the mansion on the property to serve as the centerpiece of the park.

Beyond the history, many are drawn to the park for the plentiful sports fields and courts open for play, from tennis to baseball and just about everything in between. There are also lots of benches and pavilions perfect for an afternoon picnic on a warm summer day!
